A BIT BRIT - A Timeless Colonial Reimagined

Bellingham, WA | 1920s Colonial Home Renovation

This 1920s Colonial home in Bellingham, Washington was designed and executed while Jordyn Solberg was a Senior Designer at Lisa Staton Design.

After years of disjointed renovations, the home was ready for a comprehensive rethinking—one that would restore clarity, function, and a sense of cohesion to its historic architecture. The project centered on a full reconfiguration of the main living spaces, including relocating the kitchen and primary gathering areas to create a more expansive and intentional layout for cooking, entertaining, and daily family life.

A key part of the renovation was the introduction of a generous pantry and coffee bar, designed to support both function and rhythm within the home.

The design approach drew inspiration from traditional Colonial and farmhouse architecture, as well as English country homes and East Coast residences. These influences helped guide material choices and detailing, creating a space that feels rooted in tradition while adapted for modern living.

Throughout the home, special care was taken to balance openness with intimacy—crafting spaces that feel airy and connected, while still warm, layered, and comfortable for both everyday living and entertaining.

The result is a thoughtfully reimagined Colonial home that feels grounded in its history while fully aligned with the lifestyle of its residents.
