PORTAGE BAY CRAFTSMAN

Seattle, WA | Arts & Crafts Craftsman Home Renovation

This Craftsman home in Seattle’s Portage Bay neighborhood was designed and executed while Jordyn Solberg was a Senior Designer at Lisa Staton Design.

The project focused on a full renovation and restoration of this classic Arts and Crafts home, with a particular emphasis on returning character and integrity to the original architecture—especially within the kitchen and primary gathering spaces.

The clients were looking to create a more open and functional kitchen and dining area, designed for entertaining while still honoring the historic language of the home. The reconfiguration included relocating the powder room to improve flow, introducing a butler’s bar, and carefully refining the layout to better support modern living.

As part of the restoration approach, window openings were adjusted to align with the home’s original Craftsman proportions, ensuring a cohesive relationship between new interventions and existing architecture.

Material selections and detailing were guided by a balance of tradition and refinement—combining classic Craftsman influence with elevated finishes such as brass accents, marble shelving, and a vintage French cabinet that adds depth and character to the kitchen space.

Upstairs, the bathroom was reimagined with a more contemporary sensibility while still feeling connected to the home’s overall character, incorporating black marble, soft pink cabinetry, and bespoke fixtures for a layered, unexpected finish.

The result is a thoughtfully restored Craftsman home that balances historic preservation with modern functionality, bringing new life to a classic Seattle Arts and Crafts residence.
